LighterLife weight loss success stories: Vicki Wright

July 5, 2013 - Success Stories

Vicki before and afterVicki Wright from Camberley started LighterLife in July 2012 and lost 7 stone 13 lbs on Total. She’s now on LighterLife management, having lost 9 stone in total, and is maintaining her goal weight. Here, she tells us how the programme changed her life.

LighterLife: What made you decide to start LighterLife?
Vicki: My first motivation for joining was that I wanted to look and feel beautiful for my wedding, which is in May 2014. I thought I’d need a miracle to make it happen, as I had tried several diets and couldn’t stick to any of them. The thought of being the centre of attention looking the way I did petrified me, and I didn’t want to have to get a wedding dress specially made to fit my enormous size 24 frame.

Another big reason for joining was because I dream of becoming a mum, but since the age of 11 I have suffered with polycystic ovaries, which was a result of my weight gain and can affect your fertility. My fiancée had concerns about me trying LighterLife, but he understood that this would help me to reach a healthy weight and give us the best possible change of becoming parents.

LighterLife: What’s your favourite thing so far about your LighterLife experience?
Vicki: Being on LighterLife has given me a lot of good things. Now I can go into any shop and buy a size 8 without having to try it on. I’m no longer limited to one store, or left crying in a changing room because nothing fits. It’s also given me the confidence to meet new friends and socialize a lot more without fear of being judged for my size. Out of everything though, the best thing has been my newfound confidence in my own abilities. I now know that I really can achieve anything in life that I set my mind to. I never realised before now that I had this ability to be so determined to achieve my goals.

LighterLife: What keeps you motivated?
Vicki: Now that I’m maintaining my weight, there have been a few emotional triggers that have threatened to take me back to the dark side and my former bad habits concerning food, however I’m pleased that so far I have been able to stay on track. It would be easy to gain two pounds and then spiral out of control, but for now all I have to do is look at a picture of me modelling my beautiful wedding dress and remind myself of who I am now and who I was pre-LighterLife. I don’t want to go back to that, so this keeps me on track.

LighterLife: What’s been your biggest challenge so far on your weight loss journey?
Vicki: There haven’t been as many as you might think, but probably the hardest thing has been a few negative comments that I received/still receive about my new appearance. These are mainly from people who don’t know me very well, but I’ve learned to look past it because it’s obviously rooted in jealously. My close friends and family all have my back and have helped me so much during my journey that I have never felt left out.

LighterLife: If you could give one piece of advice to other members, what would it be?
Vicki: My advice would be to just stick with it and enjoy it. This is such a fantastic opportunity to rediscover the true you. The results are achievable just as long as you stay positive and don’t give into negative thoughts. Talk to your friends and family when you feel down, left out, lonely or scared and they will get you through it. It’s so important to have that support and it’s really made me the happy and confident person I am today.
