Teresa Cameron, 36, from Cambridgeshire, lost 6 stone on LighterLife in seven months, and says she now feels free from her addiction to food. Here, she explains how LighterLife has made her a better mum and given her more energy.
LighterLife: What triggered you to lose weight?
Teresa: I had been a healthy weight as a child and an active teenager, but my weight started to creep on when I got my first desk job. Add getting married and having children to the equation, and I hit my thirties at a size 18 and miserable. The weight continued to creep up each year, and by the age of 35 I was bursting out of a size 20 and tipping the scales at 16.5 stone, which at 5ft 2in tall made me morbidly obese. My blood pressure had started to go up, while my energy levels went down.
I tried various diets, went to the gym and just couldn’t understand why I wasn’t losing weight.
My ‘rock bottom’ came in October 2012 when I went on a hen weekend, which involved dressing up and fun with my friends – except that I didn’t find it fun at all. I was embarrassed, ashamed and totally disgusted with myself. Then the pictures appeared on Facebook and I decided there and then that something drastic needed to happen. I didn’t know it at the time, but my sister-in-law, who had also been away with us that weekend, was feeling the same way and desperately wanted to lose weight too.
LighterLife: How did you discover LighterLife?
Teresa: I researched Lighter Life and the fact that it gave quick results along with group therapy really appealed to me. I told my sister-in-law what I was going to do, and we made a pact to do LighterLife together. I went to my first session on 31 October 2012 and started my LighterLife Total journey on 1 November. The group was so supportive and I felt welcome and supported from day one.
LighterLife: What’s your favourite thing so far about your LighterLife experience?
Teresa: I wholeheartedly believe that what makes Lighter Life different is the CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) counselling and group support. My mind has been opened and food no longer controls me. I couldn’t be happier, and I feel confident that I will never go back to my bad habits and the big sizes I used to wear.
Half way through my weight loss journey, I found the confidence to go back to the gym and started running. I recently ran my first 10k race in 58 minutes, which makes me so proud. Next month I’m competing in my first half marathon and it’s all thanks to LighterLife that I feel confident enough to do it.
I have a lot more energy now and can join in with my children, rather than watching them from the sidelines. I’m so happy I can now be the role model for my children that I wanted to be.
LighterLife: What was the best piece of information you received from LighterLife to keep you motivated?
Teresa: The CBT sessions have been invaluable. I have learnt how to recognise crocked thoughts and make adult decisions – not just with food, but in all components of my life.
LighterLife: What’s been your biggest challenge so far on your weight loss journey?
Teresa: There were two – abstaining over Christmas, and sticking to the LighterLife Lite plan on an all-inclusive holiday with my family. But my husband and family have been very supportive and are proud of me for doing this.
LighterLife: If you could give one piece of advice to other people wanting to lose weight, what would it be?
Teresa: LighterLife has been an amazing experience and has changed my life completely. If my story can give just one person the confidence to give it a go, then I’ll be happy. My advice to anyone considering it is to just go for it.
The first couple of weeks are the biggest challenge. Once you get past that and the weight starts to come off you will feel amazing and confident and the time will fly by. Just remember that you can do it, and when you do, it will be the best decision you’ve ever made!
