“The woman I am today is not the same person I was 6 years ago. For 10 years of my life I was overweight and I was ok with that. I would reach for food when I was bored and when I had to take on difficult tasks. It was a comfort blanket.
As my weight grew my health problems became increasingly dangerous. I was told that I needed an operation because of my weight but I was ironically too heavy to go under anaesthetic. It was in that moment that I realised I could no longer push my weight to the back of my mind.
I signed up to LighterLife in 2010 because I was ready. After so many years I knew I had to do something different. I needed a plan that helped me lose weight quickly and safely. I didn’t want a slow weight loss you get on ordinary diets. LighterLife was exactly what I was looking for.
In 2012 I was in the best place both physically and mentally, thanks to the CBT techniques I’d learnt in group. Near the end of 2012 I stopped attending my management group, designed to help clients keep the weight off. It wasn’t until 2015 that I caught myself pilling on the pounds. I instantly recognised this behaviour, acknowledged my crooked thinking towards food and identified that I reached for the biscuits out of boredom not hunger.
I now know that the trick is doing the whole thing, management never comes to an end it is something I will need to be mindful of going forward. The difference in putting on just one stone was significant and my clothes looked completely different. I trust the LighterLife plan fully and the tools I learnt from my group sessions were invaluable in recognising my weight gain.
My family, friends and colleagues have all been so supportive, as well as my Counsellor Tabitha and the other ladies in group.
I’m looking forward to a much healthier future now as a result of what I have lost and the important life lessons I’ve leart along the way. I now sing in two bands and couldn’t be happier!”
