Lose weight, taste great: Top tips for enjoying your Foodpacks in summer

May 20, 2014 - Recipes

strawberry shakeSummer has finally arrived but just because you’re on LighterLife, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the taste of strawberries and cream! In this blog, we’ll show you how to ‘pimp your Foopacks’ to create some tasty summer snacks that won’t jeopardise your weight loss.
LighterLife clients following the Total plan replace their normal food intake with four LighterLife Foodpacks per day. These provide all the essential nutrients you need for good health, so you can be sure you’ll lose the weight quickly. If you’re on Total but want to mix up the taste of your packs a bit to add some interest, here are a few suggestions of things you might like to try over summer. (But remember, don’t freeze Foodpacks, or cook them unless indicated on the packet directions, as doing so might damage their nutrients.)

Light touch
Add Mousse Mix to a Mint Chocolate shake to create a light and fluffy dessert with a twist.

Mix it up
Why not mix and match your shakes to create a more complex flavour? Make a Strawberry mousse (using half a sachet of Strawberry and 1 tsp/5g Mousse Mix), then pour over half a Vanilla shake. Or, make half a sachet of each up separately with 1 tsp/5g Mousse Mix per shake and, when set, scoop out and serve together in a sundae glass. (You can use up the remaining unmade-up halves at a later date.)

Smoothly does it
Add crushed ice to a Banana shake for a refreshing smoothie drink.

Chew chew!
Make up half a sweet Foodpack like Strawberry as a mousse (using 1 tsp/5g Mousse Mix), then top with half a crumbed Cranberry & Raspberry bar just before eating to create an extra fruity flavour with a bit more bite. Or why not try Chocolate with Crispy Peanut? Yummy!

Lolly dolly
Mix up a Drinks Mix flavouring with water, pour it into lollipop moulds and freeze to create a refreshing ice lolly – try with the new Pink Grapefruit for a really tangy treat. (Remember, you shouldn’t freeze Foodpacks, so only do this with Drink Mixes.)

I like to mix the strawberry shake with very cold sparkling mineral water. Try it!

Porridge biscuits –
Mix the porridge with enough water to make a sticky dough. Splodge the small piles of the mixture on to a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper. Pat the piles down with the back of a teaspoon to form small biscuit sizes. Bake in a moderate oven for about ten minutes, turning over half way through. They are baked when they leave the paper easily. I only do this once a week to vary things as you can’t be sure if your destroying too many vitamins – though it is normally blasted for two minutes in a microwave anyway. I have cooked mine in my halogen oven, where you can see keep an eye on them. A friend has also cooked them in a hot heavy bottomed non-stick frying pan and flipped them over half way. I sometimes add a shake of cinnamon, for a change.

I add a shot of expresso coffee to my vanilla shakes. Mix well with crushed ice for a gorgeous frappe, and a fraction of the calories.

I make 200mls of black coffee and then mix with half a pack of chocolate and half a pack of vanilla shake – makes a lovely ‘cappuccino’
