Harness your personal power to lose weight

July 30, 2013 - Psychology

The ability to lose weight and keep it off lies with you. Psychologist Dr Phil McGraw shares his four ways to lead a purposeful, effective, self-determined life that allows you to achieve your goals.

1. Know who you are
A strong sense of self is the foundation of personal power. If you define yourself by what someone else thinks, you’ve already lost the battle. Be who you want to be.

2. Live passionately
If there isn’t something in your life that makes you wake up excited to start the day, you may fall short of your potential. Passion propels you towards your goals and meaningful existence.

3. Be assertive
An aggressive person wants to advance their agenda at the expense of other people. An assertive person will reach their goal while still considering the feelings and interests of others.

4. Embrace risk
Great business people rely on their belief in their abilities and take confidence in something new. Apply this entrepreneurial thinking to your life – whether it’s overhauling your health and fitness habits or rejuvenating your love life.

It’s really important to make time for yourself to enable reflection on what’s important. By making these four simple changes, you’ll boost your self-confidence and set yourself free from anything holding you back.
