LighterLife runner takes on the London Marathon for Children with Cancer

April 25, 2012 - News

Everyone at LighterLife is unbelievably proud of colleague Maxine Holland, a member of our Quality Assurance Team, who bravely took part in the mighty London Marathon challenge on Sunday 22 April and completed the gruelling 26.2 miles in just 5 hours, 12 minutes and 28 seconds…far exceeding her expected finishing time!

A highlight for Maxine was passing TOWIE star James ‘Arg’ Argent at around the half way point…

‘I was starting to flag and suddenly there was this huge crowd’

…that crowd was just the motivation Maxine needed, at that point in the race, to keep running.

Maxine chose to run for Children with Cancer, a non-government funded charity who rely solely on donations from the public to help them research and develop treatments for childhood cancers.

The charity had over 1,300 runners, although Maxine ran alone showing immense grit and determination, she says it was hugely motivating and uplifting when she passed other runners for Children with Cancer who all shouted words of encouragement and support.

Children with Cancer have hailed Maxine, and their other runners as heroes as indeed they are, Maxine alone has raised nearly £1,300 for the charity.

“It was definitely the toughest thing I have ever done – even after giving birth twice with only gas and air! It was an amazing and emotional experience and to be honest it still doesn’t feel real!’

Maxine and LighterLife would like to thank our loyal LighterLife Facebook Community for all their kind words of encouragement and support!

Congratulations to Zoe and Rachelle for guessing Maxine’s correct finishing time in our Facebook poll. A LighterLife Magazine is on its way to you.
