Strike a pose with LighterLife magazine cover star Vanessa Dickson

October 31, 2012 - Beauty

Binge drinking and eating greasy kebabs gradually led Vanessa Dickson, 36, to pile on the pounds. Since LighterLife, she’s transformed her life and found a love for fashion. To celebrate her fab new figure, we treated her to a glamorous makeover.

Here’s what Vanessa had to say about her 4 new gorgeous looks…

Look one: show stopping

Vanessa says: ‘My wardrobe always used to be full of black and baggy tunic tops, never any colour. I loved this dress. I felt elegant, and the colour is fab. I’d wear this to a wedding or to the races.’

Our stylist says: ‘This dress with the straight neckline and slit sleeves is very slimming. The peplum tailoring flatters the stomach and slightly covers to ensure you feel comfortable after eating. It falls just below the knee, elongating Vanessa’s legs.

Look two: shades of elegance

Vanessa says: ‘This is definitely something I’d pick. I love the tights, and it would be great for after work drinks with my friends over the winter. I’d hardly ever wear dresses before LighterLife, it was always leggings and never anything bright. Today has really made me think about experimenting with colour.

Our stylist says: ‘This casual dress is vibrant but it has sleeves, so it’s great for autumn and winter. The cross-over front complements Vanessa’s figure by accentuating her bust, and the middle band draws her waist in. It could be made smart or casual and could very easily be worn with winter boots or flats.’

Look three: colour confident

Vanessa says: ‘I felt comfortable in this and loved it. When I was big, I’d cover my arms with cardigans. Even since losing weight I’m still conscious of them – I think I’m still in that ‘fat’ mindset. I’d never have worn something so fitted before. I still double take in the mirror, as I’m not used to having a small frame.’

Our stylist says: ‘Here, we’ve used lace armery, which acts as tights for the arms. It can be worn over or under a dress but here we’ve put it under to cover Vanessa’s arms without taking the attention away from the dress.’

Look four: slim and fabulous

Vanessa says:I’ve always had thin ankles but before LighterLife I had big thighs, so finding jeans was always  a nightmare. I remember asking a sales assistant what size their jeans went up to, and she said a 22, and looked at me as if to say ‘you’ll never fit in them’. Shop assistants never had time for me, but now I’m slim, they can’t help me enough! It’s quite sad in a way. Since losing weight, I love skinny jeans. The cardigan is also very flattering on my arms.’

Our stylist says: ‘The fitted cardigan shows off her newly slim waist while the skinny jeans, with a high waistband, accentuates her waist and elongates her legs. Skinny jeans can be dressed up with high heels like we’ve done here, or with pumps for a more casual look. They’re a great staple for the autumn wardrobe.’

I am really upset that my local class has finished my ciuncillor was VIvien Stewart at Wickersley. I was not given any notice last November just got a letter saying she has finished that week,I thought that when you signed up for the plan that you were lifetime members! My nearest councillor is at Mexbrough which is too far for me to travel every week and if I wanted to stay to a class I cannot get there in time after work because of the distance. I have had to join weightwatchers but at least they provide classes in most places.I got to management level and never did I dream that lighter life would have left me in this position.I don’t think this makes you look like a professional outfit and I am really sorry that this has been allowed to happen to their members.
