Pampering your feet is a great way to treat yourself while you’re losing weight. And, with summer just around the corner, it’s time to get them looking fabulous for those pretty summer sandals…
1. Get scrubbing
Before we can make our feet look pretty, we need to give them a bit of TLC. Using a Pumice stone in warm water, apply a grainy foot scrub like Superdrug Exfoliating Foot Scrub, which contains gentle exfoliating beads, jojoba seed oil and aloe vera to smooth and soften rough and dry skin. For a money-saving alternative, you can add some granulated sugar to your favourite thick moisturiser and use that as a scrub.
2. Get rid of dry skin
Hard, dry, rough skin on our heels can look ugly when wearing sandals – and it can also make walking painful. The revolutionary Emjoi Micro-Pedi safely buffs away dry, hard and rough skin from the soles and heels, making it the easiest and cheapest way to get salon results. Wash the your feet and pat dry before applying a generous amount of foot cream, such as Heel Genius by Soap and Glory.
3. Clip those toenails!
Long nails on toes look horrible, not to mention slightly scary! The best way to cut your toenails is with clippers. Ideally, your nails should be no longer than a couple of millimetres over the edge of your toe. Try and cut them neat and straight, without leaving any sharp edges – sharp toenails just love to scag your tights when pulling them on.
4. Prepare your nails
If you want your nails shaped, hard, and healthy – file them. First, make sure your nails are completely dry, as wet nails tend to break easily. Make sure to go in one direction only – back-and-forth, as this makes nails brittle. Next, apply some cuticle oil to your nails, gently push up your cuticles. According to Sally Hansen nail expert Alison Bowhill-Hayes, if your cuticles are a bit cracked, dry or broken, it’s probably time you started applying the nourishing oil to your nails.
5. Paint them pretty.
Once you’ve done all of the above, your feet should be feeling fabulously smooth and rejuvenated. Perfectly painted nails can express your mood, match your outfit and reflect your personality. First, apply a base coat of clear nail polish, which will give your chosen polish a smooth surface to stick to, will help the colour last longer and will protect your nails from becoming stained. Once dried, paint your nails in upward strokes – Barry M have an amazing colour range to choose from.
Remember, you wear your feet everywhere, so they’re worth taking care of!
