Watering can in the grassAs the weather improves, more of us will be getting our gardens in order – but did you know those little outdoor chores could also help you burn off some calories?

Exercise doesn’t always have to mean sweating it out in the gym. Pottering in your garden can burn up to 200 calories (that’s if you weigh 185 lb) – if you’re 155 lb you’ll burn 167 calories, and those weighing 125 lb will burn 135 calories.

Planting seedlings burns 120 to 178 calories per half hour, depending on the weight of the person doing the planting.

Doing a bit of weeding? That could burn up to 205 calories in just half an hour.

Digging and spading dirt offer even more calorie burn, with a rate of 150 to 222 calories burned per half hour. It’s a win/win situation – tackle your weeds and your weight at the same time!
